Middle of February. The last entry was April. 2008, mind you. I feel guilty. I feel responsible for not updating this blog. I suggested to Ken for creating this blog and he invited me to be a contributor. No updates from him for a while! Reason? There are no reasons. No updates from since April. Reason? I am busy updating my own website http://www.syafiqueshuib.com/ (this is what I call a shamless self-promo. If we are not going to blow our own trumpet, then who will do it for us?)

Anyways.

Ken is a very opinionated guy. He talks politics too. Just the other day, as we were enjoying our Pepsi and Secret Recipe cakes, we talked about Obama. Obama knows how to talk. He knows how to motivate people. His speeches are truly inspirational. But can he run a country. Ken told me that we should give him a few months, whether he practices what he preaches.

See.

Ken is not afraid to express his political opinions. He does not read about celebrity gossips. He prefers to read about politicians. He wants to analyze each politician one by one.

Anyways.

What is my point of writing this blog entry. This is an appeal for Kenneth to update his blog. We want to read his opinions and the thougts that are running around his head. Afterall, it is not about being right or wrong, but about expressing our mind.

So there.

I have updated this blog with this little entry.

Your turn.

TOKL: TIME OUT KUALA LUMPUR

Time Out Kuala Lumpur (http://www.timeoutkl.com/) has finally made its debut across major newsstands across the city. If you are not familiar with the Time Out magazines across the world (how could you not know it?), it was first published in London (http://www.timeout.com/) and now boost 23 international editions. And yes, Singapore has its own edition of the city magazine much earlier than us!

It's a magazine that will clue (read: KLue) you in on the latest happenings across town. Be it food, nightlife, culture, literary events, spas, fashion, and etc.

Finally a magazine that will compete with KLue and Vision KL (amongst many others). But in terms of contents, KLue is more features-based while Time Out is more listings-based. In other words, there are more articles in KLue magazine and there is more listings/reviews in Time Out magazine.

I like the Books section of the magazine because it included an interview with a local author. The reviews in the magazine are fair, which is good, because certain magazine will give a good review just because they advertised in the magazine. So it is definitely good that the editorial is truly independent. The layout and design truly is neat and organized and it reflects an international brand.

Priced at RM 4.90 per copy, I am sure Time Out will definitely be a hit among KL-ites. Afterall, don't we all love to consume international brands? What's for sure, TIME OUT KUALA LUMPUR (or simply known as TOKL according to the mag!) is for KL-ites, by KL-ites.

Happy Reading.

Ghost Voters?

By Ken

As all Malaysians know, 8th March is the voting day for this country.

Barisan National (BN) – the ever popular party that Malays vote for. Other parties include DAP, PAS, etc. etc. etc. Well, today, I received a lot of emails regarding “Ghost Voters” for BN. What do I mean? It means the people have been putting and registering fake ICs making the poll count for BN to increase tremendously and eventually making them stand out from the smaller parties.

How can such things happen? Isnt there any control of this? Guess what? The Ghost Voters come from Negeri Sembilan itself from the city of Rembau. This is really a big disgrace to the country having to fake the poll counts. Cant this country just be fair and equal for once in a lifetime? Anyways, I think there will be strikes, chaos, fights, etc. etc. and can never be a peaceful election.

Enough said.

Usage of Elevators

By Kenneth

Hello everyone.

There has been a short delay in updating this blog due to some work commitments and some unforeseen circumstances. But however, when there’s time, there’s always an entry to continue the life of this blog.

Enjoy reading!

Elevators are always used to bring people up and down floors within a tall building. Lets say a building with 20 floors and 6 elevators. During lunch times, the lifts will be very busy bringing people down to ground floor. However, during normal times, lets say a person going from 19th floor to 18th floor, isn’t it faster to use the staircase instead of having to wait for the lift? It really takes a lot of time! Somemore it slows down those that wants to go down from 20th floor to 3rd floor for example. I see a lot of people wait for the lifts just to go up or down 1 floor… how lazy these people are! Exercise!!! Its harmless to use the staircase for 1 floor up or down.

Well, that’s all for now…

A Day Out...

It was my first time entering the "Pavillion" yesterday. I didnt know where the location was and had to ask the Lot 10 guard. Walked down the aisle towards Starhill and managed to find the newly built shopping centre. Went there to meet up with a friend of mine and finally, it was our first meet of 2008.

I was hungry so we decided to have lunch when we met. I had Nasi Lemak and it was my friend's first time hearing me say "Tambah nasi"... hahahaha!! The food was nice. We walked around then it was a car trip to our first destination to Port Klang. It was quite a long drive having the whining driver (my friend) to drive there. :P:P:P... The funny thing was when we arrived Port Klang, I said, "So, this is it?" hahaha... its a nice view of the containers but not able to view the South China Sea as it is blocked by the containers and machineries.

After few phone calls, we decided to meet up with my friend's relatives at Plaza Alam Central. Played bowling there. The lane condition is similar to Pyramid Bowl except for the ball size which I was not customed to. I played on and surprisingly, I managed to get 5 strikes in a row!!!. There were so many spectators around our area during that time. My friend however, was not too happy... hahahahaha....

Drove back all the way to KLCC for dinner and had pizza and pasta at 3rd floor food court. It was a nice and enjoyable journey with my friend and had fun all day and night yesterday. We shall meet soon with our own Hong Kong friend...

Till then, ciao.

Parking Indicators

Went to Sunway Pyramid last night with a friend that I have not met since November 2007. Went to park at the new wing parking lot and noticed that every parking bay has indicator lights. What do I mean? Well, if there is a car parked in a bay, the indicator is red. If there is free parking bay, the indicator is green. This is to show the next person to know where the available parking bay is located. Thats so cool, right!

Just curious of where Sunway Pyramid gets that idea from. Next curiousity would be the cost of implementing those indicators. Then it would be how the indicators know that theres a car or not - whether it is using some sort of laser technology (they wished) or is it some hidden camera or wall sensors that is being implemented. Doing such is not cheap. Well, thats the first parking lot that I noticed uses light indicators.

The movie Cloverfield - watched it last night at Sunway Pyramid too. I didnt read the trailers or see any ads about it so from the name, I thought its a thriller or action movie. When it started, the camera keeps moving. Guess what, this movie is another copy of the Korean dragon movie (forgotten whats the name already) except that Cloverfield shows the movie from 1st person point of view. In the end, Manhattan city is bombed... hahahaha...

Well, CNY is just around the corner next week. So far, I think this is the only country with so many public holidays given in a year. Some are state holidays and a lot are national holidays.

I noticed this is why all Malays want to work in the government because of the plentiful benefits they get instead of working in international or MNC companies. One major benefit is the 4 or 4.5 working days per week. Why? This is because of the popular Fridays in every week. What happens? I noticed that some or many of a typical employee leaves early for lunch, goes to Friday prayers, sleeps or rest a while, then instead of going back to office, goes somewhere else such as play sports or meet up with friends, or hang out with friends. Afterthat, the person only goes back to office and decides to have afternoon tea. After a while of sitting and glaring at the office walls, the time is 5.00pm and it is time to go home already. I am not making up these stories. I witnessed and noticed how these government employees work. The irony is they are given an increment of about 15% (Source: from newspapers 2007) of their salaries for a 4/4.5 working days per week. This is a major benefit for working in the government sector. ALL MNC companies are working strictly 5 days per week 8 hours per day. Government sectors are working much less and quality of work remains poor.

Another major benefit is if the holiday is on a weekend, it is automatically carried forward to the next working day. Hahahaha... Well, why not just make it 3 or 4 working days per week then... This is just so poor and somewhat stupid decision made by someone in this country. This is one major reason why Malaysia is still a developing country - no one is working or making efforts to make this country grow. Disappointing...

Now, theres so many public holidays! This is why I noticed all Malays moving away from big MNC companies and going to government sectors. They get lots of benefits but actually what do they learn and get out of working there? I can guess almost to nothing new. I am working in a MNC company, so I know of where the employees are moving to and coming from. All these are facts!

DR. He "SAID" that he is being very honest about this. He also "SAID" that he is doing this as a lesson for all other leaders not to follow his wrong-doings.

I find all this totally funny, ironic, and stupid. He did something wrong - he should be punished like all citizens. Now he only resigned from all posts and thats it. He is GUILTY and many is still crying for him not to leave those posts? What kind of Malaysians are these?
Mr. Chua did something bad and he is twisting the whole scenario as if he is doing a good thing for the country. hahahahahaha... All Malaysians think alike!!!

The funniest thing is the comments given by his wife! The wife said its "OK" as he is a good husband and the children likes him a lot. Huh? This doesnt make sense! I just dont know how these people think and react to such situations when high-authority governmental person admitted to something serious which may deteriorate a country's shame. This is a major shame to the country and everyone seems to be ok with it especially the family. hahahahahaha... This is just too much BS to handle!... hahahahahaha... Might as well be some other "Malay" guy doing the same thing and being treated the same way... sounds good?

Anywayz, this story is just pure stupid and being handled very poorly by the country.

Ciao for now.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kentheblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/dr-chua-scandal.html' title='DR. Just finished work in office and came to 1-Utama for the weekly bowling session held by my company.

A bit early so thought of using the free Internet here which sometimes need to be patient and wait to be the next user. Theres only 4 computers and to a surprise, all 4 is working. No maintenance being done, no security at all, but oh well, we get to use it for free.

Finding a car park is also difficult. Everyone is horning at each other, and this time, I parked my car on the 4th floor coz usually I park my car at the basement. The car park space is not big and limited run-space and lots of horning. Dont know why these people keep horning for no reasons.

Christmas is coming soon and lots of shows and performances are being held here at 1-Utama!. Santa Claus is here too at the Oval with 2 wearing British guards' uniform. Lots of kids too taking something off his hands. Its all good fun during Christmas!!!...

Wishing everyone here and my contributors an early Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year of 2008... Cheers.

FINALLY AN UPDATE

Hello Everyone and my fellow contributors!!!

It has been a few weeks already since I last updated. I had been moving around companies and finally stopped at a multi-national company named Deloitte. Due to some restrictions in the office, I was not able to do a lot of things, so finally this weekend, I have some time to do some updating on this blog.

The Deloitte Annual Dinner & Dance 2007 was held last night (Dec 7th) at Shangri-La Hotel, KL City. We were all given to finish work at 3.00pm. I went straight home, changed, and took the trains to the hotel. When I arrived, I was the first person to arrive. A lot of others were stucked in the heavy traffic jams. However, everyone had fun and an enjoyable night! Food was ok and given 2 bottles of Spanish wine per table. There were 68 tables of 10 people each, so it was quite a number of attendance from Deloitte. A lot of prizes, shows, performances, and especially the dances. It was all a very good night.

Christmas is coming soon and the year of 2007 is coming to an end soon and we all to welcome the New Year of 2008!!! More challenges ahead, more stories, more live events, and more to come!!!

Being Idle for Quite a While

By Ken

Hello Everyone. It seems that this blog has been quite idle for quite some time already. I myself have been moving here and there too and difficult to find a suitable Internet connection to even check my emails. As a matter of fact, I have not check emails in more than 2 weeks. Well, currently, I am working in Deloitte at Damansara Uptown 1 as IT Administrator. Just started few weeks ago and is quite enjoying the work even though the workload is a lot. Also, the Internet here blocks quite a few ‘addictive’ websites and software such as MSN, skype, online MSN, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and a few other software and sites. This is the reason why I have not been checking emails or being online or doing something online.

Thanks to my 2 contributors that have added some new entries to make the blog flowing nice and smooth. I hope that the readers and the so-called ‘regular’ readers have not run away though because this blog has been idle for quite some time due to some unforeseen circumstances.

Well, this entry is being updated by my friend on my behalf since I am not able to update blogs too… lol.

Steve Irwin Day

By: Veni

Today marks Steve Irwin Day. Of course in Australia that means a lot, especially at the Australia Zoo that Steve called home and which now, the responsibility of continuing its legacy, rests on the shoulders of Steve’s widow Terri and young daughter Bindi.

I’ve never met Steve Irwin but I was horrified to learn about his death after I had grown fond of his zany antics on telly. What I liked most about Steve, The Crocodile Hunter, was that he really revolutionized watching TV documentaries.

He made me want to care about scaly creatures, even though I may not want to go out and hug a croc and go so far as to call it a “beauty,” I wouldn’t be buying any crocodile hangbags.
Steve made wildlife shows not boring.

The fact that he died while filming a show is testimony to his infectious passion and his determination to ensure that people, his viewers, and the world were up to the mark when it came to understanding all the animals that live in our world.

He was never one of those celebrity figureheads, and even if he did do a movie he did it to raise awareness. It was never about Steve, it was always about the animals that he loved dearly, and it is people like him that we should remember and admire.

Steve may have been a ‘celebrity’ but never once have I ever read anything scandalous or controversial about him. Watching the memorial tapes of him right after his death it was equally touching to see him with his family.

He loved his wife, he loved his kids and thankfully Bindi has inherited his passion for wildlife and continues to follow in her father’s footsteps. There was some criticism about her taking over so young but it was her choice and I certainly don’t think her mother Terri forced her into it.

It was also amazing to see Terri and Steve together. They looked like they had such a great relationship, and I think even behind the cameras they were the same as they were on. Steve really gives guys a good name. And if you have to ask where have all the good men gone? I think, for this one time, I can say: to Heaven and yeah I'm proud to say that I know 2 of them in earth, my Dad and dear Krish.

Happy Deepavali

By: Veni

Deepavali gives us an opportunity to take stock of the the good and evil within us and around us - thus gives an opportunity for meaningful and sustaining decision making for progress. Let me take the opportunity to update all you readers out there. The owner of this blog got a new job and enjoying and loving every minute of it. Plus, he has a new laptop. I am so happy that he has finally got his dream job and let me tell you this, he has been aiming for this job for a long time.

Recently, I went for a job interview as a Copywriter (just trying my luck as a copywriter. Writing jobs are very competitive in Malaysia and openings are not many!). The interview went well but I will only hear from the Senior Executive this coming week.

After the interview I took my nephew to McDonald's. I bought him a Happy Meal set and I told him that when I was young, I used to buy the Happy Meal set, too, and complete with the toys and all.

"McDonald's was invented when you were young?" was his exact words when he responded to me.

"Of course, you think I am THAT old," I answered back.

Aiyoh, feel so old when he asked me that question.

I do not know where Veni is, but I guess she is busy with her work. Well, the answer is "It depends on many considerations". Usually when we are alone, we tend to eat simple and cheap food such as McD, Burger King, nasi goreng from Malay shop, or roti canai from an Indian shop. Many will tend to eat at home or eat home-cooked food. Where to eat when you have company or companions?

For myself, it is sometimes difficult to find out where and what to eat with normal friends, office colleagues, or close friends. Sometimes, the question of 'budget' comes about when deciding where and what to eat simply because it seems to be a major factor. Usually, when being answered "Anywhere la" or "Whatever la", it seems to be a harder decision because you dont know whether to eat simple food or eat something of higher class. As for myself, I have eaten at all areas in KL in all types of classes from road-side food to mamak to McD to Pizza Hut to cafes to Madam Kwan to TGIF and Chilis.

What type of food, how much time available, and location plays an important factor too. For example, if we are working and have 1 hour lunch break, then usually I will tend to go to McD or some mamak shop. If I am on off days, then it depends on who I am going out with, I tend to choose and think. With close friends, I tend not to go for junk food restaurants and to eat better class foods. If I am with normal friends, then I usually let the person to decide because for me, naturally, I dont know what and where to eat because different people have different considerations.

If I were to choose what and where to eat, I tend to choose those that some may not like to eat or locations too far or the type of food is not suitable, or too pricy, etc. I like all types of food but sometimes, you just dont know whether the person likes to eat chinese, asian, or western foods. Different people means different lifestyle and different perception of where and what to eat.

HOT FROM THE OVEN

By SS

Since we have not used the oven since we moved in, I decided to start a baking project right after I completed my high school, which was around four years ago. I was still in China, just a few months from returning back to Malaysia. I was lazying around the house, without doing anything productive.

I am such a brownies junkie. I love brownies, complete with chocolate fudge. When you live in China, the only time you can have a bite of those delicious brownies was during the International Day. Of course hotels around China serve brownies, but it is not 'authentic'. It does not have that extra 'kick'. I love the brownies baked by those American expat.

I have no idea how to bake brownies from scratch. I then decided to go to Oliver's (which is a supermarket which sells imported goods!) a box of Betty Crocker's Brownies. I must admit, it's cheating to bake something from the box. All I needed to add was some water, eggs, oil, put it in the oven for a while and voila, I'm done! I did pretty well on my first try. Delicious and tasty. Even my maid was amazed at my baking talent. Friends of my mum would come to the house and my mum would force me to serve my brownies. Even they had no clue at all.

It's been a while since I last bake some brownies. Considering that you can practically get everything in Kuala Lumpur, I decided to put my baking talent on hold. Delicious brownies can easily be found in most western restuarants. It may be pricey and they are simply irresistable.

Mum has been following The Martha Stewart Show on Ntv7 and I have been following The Apprentice: Martha Stewart on 8TV (the winner was announced recently! It's Dawna, publisher of Her Sports magazine!). I decided to go to http://www.marthastewart.com/ and try out one of her cupcake recipes.

My mum and I bought all of the ingredients for the vanilla cupcake at a store called Bagus. We just wanted to try the recipe and it was for our own consumption. I may get Ken to try the cupcake considering that we might meet tomorrow.

I did not play an important role in the kitchen. Mum prepared all of the ingredients. I was there to mix the ingredients using the mixer and I thought it was an easy task. I used the hand mixer and boy can it be tiring! The cupcakes are a bit sweet but I think it was good enough on our first try.

Baking can be fun! (Except for the cleaning-up bit!!). Perhaps I should try chocolate cake next.

EFFECTS OF RAIN

What happens when heavy rain comes? Well, there are a few detrimental effects which affects everyone.

1) Car Accidents: When heavy rain comes, it causes blurred and dark visions and car lights needed to be turned on. Speed also need to be reduced as sight of your surroundings are vague. However, there are still many crazy drivers that speeds through the highway, putting up double signals for no reason, and zig-zagging around car corners. What does this lead to? Accidents of course!!! Who to blame? Not the heavy rain but those irresponsible stupid drivers.

2) Traffic Jams: As everyone know, traffic jams are very common everywhere in this country. What happens when it rains? Traffic jams incidents are doubled and longer and expands to much longer distances. Causes are those drivers that "curi ayam" (cutting lanes), accidents, on-lookers, etc.

3) Faulty traffic lights: It is very common that traffic lights go faulty when heavy rain comes. Not sure what causes it - could be lightning, system down, electricity fused, or simply no maintenance being done properly. What this easily causes are long lines of stuck-ups and piles of cars unable to go anywhere within minutes. These Malaysian drivers simply cant learn about courtesy, 'give way', or proper signaling. Is it that hard? Or is it much easier for all the drivers to cause accidents and traffic jams?

4) Pot holes accidents: Ok, enough of car drivers. Lets turn to motorcycle bikers. Even these two-wheelers have accidents also. Pot holes are those holes on roads that are either not fixed properly, not maintained, or not being filled up as required to. What happens when it rains? These pot holes becomes not visible and when the bikers run through them, they tumble and fall down causing havoc and a whole big jam.

5) Floods: When non-stop heavy rain comes, floods happen so easily anywhere. The water pathways are blocked, irrigation water systems are dirtied and blocked, river water levels raised to above street levels, basement carparks are filled up with water, cars are filled up with water, etc, etc... Flood waters have no where to go and slowly causing major floods all around the cities.

What else is new? Its just heavy rain and causes so many havocs and disturbances all around. In others countries, when heavy rain comes, I dont see such problems happening. Why here, why everyday.

MOBILE PHONES

By: Veni

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the appearance of mobile phone services. The first customers appeared in 1979 and I can still recall the phone models back then. You practically had to carry around the whole base station! It was large, like a mid-sized suitcase and many installed it in their cars. Only the rich could afford one back then. I remember my first, it was in 2001, the Ericsson phone - I thought it looked totally cool but realized today what a bulky piece of equipment it was.

Times have changed, the mobile phone makers are churning out phones slimmer than ever and the mobile penetration rate has increased tremendously. As of June 2007, it was reported that there are now close to 3 billion mobile subscribers the world over! Most of us reading this would likely contribute to that population. I can’t imagine living without one, here is how I noticed our lives have changed with the introduction of the mobile phone:

1)People stand you up on dates more often and very last minute. The mobile phone allows us to call off appointments at the very last minute. Reminiscing I realized that pre-mobile phones, I would be there at the appointed place and time even though I was tired or changed my mind about going out last minute. My friends never had to wonder where I was or run to a pay phone to call my house looking for me. We would all just converge at the given place and time.

2)We sms to keep in touch. This and poking people on Facebook has become the normal way for people nowadays to keep in touch instead of calling each other. With out highly mobile busy lives, what better and less intrusive manner to let someone know you’re thinking of them.

3)Less people install fixed lines at home since no one is there to pick it up. My mobile phone is truly with me at all times and I personally don’t see a need for a fixed line at home.

4)Parents now give their teenagers a mobile phone with a subscription instead of a second fixed line to their room.

5)It facilitates dating! It helps to have sms, you can be more open without having to “say it”. Of course there is also the case where the man divorced his wife via sms - what a pussy!

Love it or hate it, the mobile phone is here to stay. Despite it being only 25 years young, it has made an impact that has changed our lives and it will be here to stay. I’d love to hear from the person who has yet to commit to a mobile phone or stories of how the mobile phone has changed your life.

AUTHORS OF THIS BLOG

I would like to take a few moments here to welcome a few of my blog contributor writers.

Everyone, please welcome my first contributor Syafique Shuib. I have never been to the new wings, so I guess it was about time that I checked out the place, especially since that place used to be one of my hangout places. Felt like a stranger as I stepped into the new Wing, Everything was so new.

We first went for lunch. The conversation revolves around work, some television station, clubbing, exams, people, me, me caught in a love triangle (that was damn funny! Me, in a love triangle?). And yes, as usual I was the last person to finish my food. I do not have the skills to talk and eat at the same time and that is why I am such a slow eater. When I saw the bill I was shocked to see that the government tax and the service charge comes to around RM 10. Whoa, that's a lot.

Later on, we played bowling. Ken showed his skills right at the end of the first game with four straight strikes. I repeat: FOUR STRAIGHT STRIKES! He needed some time to warm up. As for me, no comment. But I did score a strike. More importantly, my team won (Argh, I wish. LOL!). The game of bowling was fun, but we might play a game of pool or futsal next.

After bowling, Ken and I decided to walk around the new wing. It has always been a tradition of ours to walk around the mall, just like what we did in Suria KLCC, and afterwards, I will be complaining about how much my legs hurt and how I needed some massage.

We actually had a serious conversation about working and how to adapt to our new working environment. I really needed that conversation and Ken really has a lot to say and he gave so many tips and advice, which was extremely helpful. It was really nice to be able to talk to someone that understands what I am going through right now.

Before I end this post, I would also like to thank my uni friends for the togetherness. It was great to see familiar faces again. The last time I saw some of them was during the Prom, but we did not talk a lot. We shared lots of stories and laughters. It was a great way to celebrate the third day of Hari Raya!

HOW TO CROSS THE ROAD

Everyone should know how to cross a road.
Everyone is taught of how to cross roads safely.
Everyone must know what to do to cross a road.
So, what to do?

"First look right, look left, then look right again. Its easy!!!... Well, there are still so many people out there that dont know how to cross a road! Especially students and adults. Everyday when I am driving, I always notice so many of them dont know how to cross roads. Many are SMSing on their phones, playing and running on the middle of the roads, and many more dangerous acts. Is this what we have to witness everyday? Its like no one cares about them being hit by cars and on-coming traffic.

Radio announcements and tv advertisements are posted out publicly but yet no positive results shown so far. Is it because the public is too free, or the public having too many itchy hands, or simply for the fun sake of it. Well, as a matter of fact, its all of the mentioned.

Everyday when I go out, I always see and witness vandalism on public properties such as train seats, train stations, phones, phone booths, or anything that can be damaged easily with force. Why do these people do such things? Have anyone of them being caught red-handed? No. There are so many out there still causing damages for fun. Sometimes, it is hard to catch them also as their actions are at night when there are less eyes to spot them.
Many will say such people like "Mat Rempits" will do such things. I will agree on this also. These motorbikers are too free and have nothing to do and only like to destroy public properties. I have witnessed them before. Well, the way they handle their motorbikes are crazy and dangerous also. It is not surprising not to make them as suspects.

Well, hope something can be done and at least some fruitful results will be shown in the near future. This is all I can say for now.

SELAMAT HARI RAYA

It's not too early to wish all of you a Selamat Hari Raya, right?

Well, there is something different about this year's Hari Raya. I cannot believe how time really flies. Last year's Hari Raya is only a distant memory. I celebrated last year's Raya with my brother Kushairi and my mum's friend, Patricia. We all gathered at my cousin's place in Shah Alam. It was like a house warming event because my cousin and her family had just moved into the house. So the family decided to gather at her place.

This year's Raya will be totally different. For one, I am no longer a student. I am a working person now. There really is something different between being a student anda working person. Last year, I had to worry about one final assignment and an exam. This year, I no longer have to worry about any assignments, just the fact that I have to go back to office on Wednesday.

I will also not celebrate Raya with my brother, as he currently is in New York.

I am also adjusting myself to my new working environment. Even as I am writing this post, I still feel unfamiliar with the people and environment. I have been working at my new place for a week and I do hope to call my new working place my "second home." I used to consider my former university my "second home" but the campus is only a part of my past now. I wonder if I can ever consider my working place my "second home."

You can say I might have a transition problem at my new place. But I had that same problem when I entered University. It was only a matter of time before I got accustomed to university life and I am hoping, sooner or later, I will adjust well at the office.

Anyways, for this Hari Raya, I am putting my worries aside as I want to enjoy the celebration with my family and friends. Worrying will only make matters worse, right? Tomorrow is the last day of fasting and Saturday is celebration day. Lots of delicious food, cookies, and cakes.

I want to wish all KEN THE BLOG readers a Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir Batin. Forgive me if I have committed any mistakes. If I have written anything that has offended anyone on my former blog CURIOUSSYAF, forgive me too.

Enjoy.

EXPRESS LANE: 8 ITEMS OR BELOW

Express Lanes for 8 items and below - we see these signboards everyday at shopping malls and supermarkets. We all should clearly and explicitly understand that the lanes are for customers with 8 items and below. The signboards and sentences also have been translated carefully to Malay, Indian, and Chinese languages. So, whats the issue here?

Well, I noticed that many of the customers and buyers dont even care! Either they dont understand, cant read, dont have the patience, or simply dont bother at all. Is this what daily customers and buyers show to others? Is there no courtesy or no manners being held here? I see customers with trolleys full of goods lining up at the express lanes and customers holding a basket full of goods also at the express lanes. All of them have 10 items and above. What about those customers and buyers that simply came to buy a drink or buy few items? They have to wait for a long time just to buy those few items. This is such a disgrace to see how the everyday consumers and buyers are simply ignoring signboards and do what they think is best and fastest for them.

Oh well, nothing much can be done as no one seem to take necessary actions. So be it then. They dont seem to learn. Is this what we all have to face everyday? Time can only tell.
Enough said for now.

SYAFIQUE: THE DEBUT

A few days after meeting the gang at Mandarin Oriental, I kept in contact with two friends. Both said I looked so thin. One was asking whether I have been miserable.

Can one's outer appearance reflects the inner soul?

It's true I have gone through a lot these past few weeks, but not to the point of losing so much weight. I thought I just looked the same. It must be the fasting month that has led me to lose some weight. It feels great to rekindle the friendship and to meet familiar faces again and to give each other warm hugs. It was the first time meeting them since the exam period. They looked stunning in their prom dresses.

What matters now is the gang and I will buka puasa together, hopefully, this week. I glad I met them at the hotel. Can't wait to meet the gang again!

***

Ken must be upset that my post is kinda short, so, part 2:

Before meeting the gang at Mandarin Oriental, we Buka Puasa at Little Penang Cafe. We ordered Nasi Lemak Penang. We were expecting spicy sambal, crunchy peanuts and chicken.

Guess what we got?

No peanuts, no chicken and very, very little sambal. Oh yeah, we had to eat Nasi Lemak with fish (and I am definitely NOT a fan of fish!!). We asked the waiter but he said that Nasi Lemak Penang is served with fish, not chicken. Nasi Lemak Chicken is definitely served with Chicken (just like what its name suggests!!!).

Argh, next time must read the menu carefully.

Nevertheless, the nasi lemak was still GREAT!

MONASH PROM 2007

Recently, I visited the Monash Prom at Mandarin Oriental Hotel next to KLCC with a friend of mine (Syaf). We were hanging around at KLCC for buka puasa at 7.15pm. Then he decided to meet up with the Monash Communications gang during the Monash Prom. I went inside the grandball room and it was very nicely decorated. There were live bands, performances, old trendy cars on display, and white smoke to spice up the atmosphere. There were also about 75 tables according to the table numbers, so it was quite huge.

After a few SMS, we finally met up outside the grandball room lobbying area. It was the 4 Monash girls that were so excited and happy to meet up with him. They all wore so nice and looked very impressive. It was very nice to finally meet up with them after quite a long time already. We all shall meet up soon over lunch or some activities.

Thats all for now. We, the public, what do we do? Usually, first impression and action will be "No, thanks" and the person will walk away. Sometimes, it will be "No, thanks" but the person still talks and show you photos and speeches, etc.

Now, charity simply means volunteering or willing. Theres no obligation at all to give money to charity. There was once when I was approached by a charity person in 1 Utama. He said to give "minimum" of RM30 to aid and help in some charity organization. The person continues talking and eventually saying "You can afford McD and not charity?", then walks away. In this example, it seems that the charity person is in need of money badly. A minimum of RM30? What! The person should be happy if RM10 is given but instead, asking for RM30 as a minimum payment? Is this charity? Its like ripping the public off.

Another case happened few hours ago when I was in Starbucks. A lady came and started to talk about some charity organization and said a minimum of RM10 is enough to cover up. Eventually, her charity is based on the Charity Run to be held in October 2007. She started to show photos and speeches made by several people. I started to question her - is the government helping on this? She said yes and contributed 20%. I asked 20% only? How much is that? She replied dont know. Then eventually I asked: Dont you think the government and other private/public figure companies should be asked instead of the public. The public plays a very minor role in this as we all can see. Why? The public does not earn the trust of where the money goes to. The money may not fall in the correct body of organizations. Well, the lady kept silent for a while, I said I will consider, then she walks away. The surprising thing is that she only came to Starbucks. What about Kopitiam or Pizza hut or KFC next doors? She didnt even bother to go to other places and only aiming for Starbucks. What does this tell me? She is only aiming for high-end customers and not the normal public. Is this the meaning of charity?

If you are going to do charity, dont be bias. Do it properly. Dont force it. Thats all I can say. Feel free to comment.

BREAKING NEWS - READ ALL ABOUT IT

I was still working last night at around 12am until I got a SMS from my friend. It stated "My car WIPERS are stolen". As I am still working, I am not supposed to make outgoing calls, but however this seems to be a serious case. I called my friend up using office phone and we talked.

The first topic we covered on was SECURITY. As this is his first job in 8TV, we thought that parking at 1Utama is safe. The car was parked at 3rd floor. Since I am a regular to 1Utama, and the time during the incident was 12am, I know the access ways to the 3rd floor parking. The people coming from inside will be those that just finished watching movies from GSC, and people coming from outside will be through the entrance door at the new wing.

The second topic we covered on was JOB. I believed that my friend will be shocked on the tragedy on the car. We believed that it could be a warning sign on the car. First strike is stealing the wipers. Whats next? It could be scratches on the sides, tyres gone, or break-ins. This is simply humiliating to this country. How much does a wiper cost? I checked its around RM25 to RM50. Why would someone want to steal car wipers? This is just BAD!!! These people causing problems should be punished without mercy. Now my friend is considering on other jobs already as first concern is SECURITY for himself and of course, the car.

The third topic we covered on was NEXT JOB. As this bring a negative impact, we were discussing on other possible new jobs. Now I just got an updated SMS saying that he cant leave. No contract has been signed, meaning no obligations, no bonds, and no agreements at all yet. So, why cant he leave? Afterall, one of the company's concern will be on the employee's security and well-being. The company must try to give full support on this issue.

Just got updated news that my friend finally "QUIT" from the company. Well, its for the good of both parties.
These people giving problems and havocs must be punished without mercy. Well, I just experienced it just now at the LDP toll plaza.

I was arriving at the TnG booth slowly and noticed an orange Proton Gen2 behind me. Before I scrolled down the window, I noticed that he stopped very near to my car, and started to wonder why he is doing so. I ignored and touched the TnG card to the machine. The blocker raises up and I started to leave. Then I noticed that the Gen2 sped fast through the blocker and managed to escape being hit on the car and eventually escaped having to pay RM1.60. The alarm even sounded!!! The Gen2 car plate number is WNL 8045. The driver is a damn bloody Chinese.

Why would anyone want to escape having to pay a small toll fee of RM1.60? It is just pure stupidity of that person. From now on, once the blocker raises up, I will leave off slowly and make the blocker hit on the car if the driver behind manages to escape again. This act needs to be stopped immediately or else it will spread to younger drivers especially college drivers who think it is fun to do. Is this what we show on the roads?

Enough said.

MALAYSIA BUDGET 2008

The Budget 2008 seems to be the main headline for this country. His name is Syafique Shuib. Both of us went to the same school in Guangzhou, China. I was in grade 9 while he was grade 7 during those times. We had similar classes together and we usually hang around together with his eldest brother who was also in the same grade as me. We were staying in Guangzhou for more than 5 years and after high school graduation, he ended up in Malaysia and I went to Australia for further studies. After Australia for 3 years, I also ended up in Malaysia. After a few msn chats, we managed to meet up in KL until today.

Time passes very fast and now, it is his turn to graduate!!! He has been studying in Monash University, Sunway doing a degree in Bachelor of Arts. The 8th of September 2007 will be his graduation in Sunway Pyramid Hotel. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Last but not least, he is now working in 8TV just next to 1-Utama. All of the employees are being treated to a nice traditional Nasi Lemak for lunch. Games and small events followed after our lunch.

I actually finished work this morning at 9am and the celebration starts at 4.30pm. I was invited by my own team manager to come and enjoy the celebration coz to some people its not a lot of sleep between the hours. Arrived home at 11am, slept straightaway and woke up at 2pm, and came straight to office. Everyone in office was surprised to see me being able to make it for the celebration.

Games included making as many words as possible using the word "INDEPENDENCE". I managed to come out with 17 words. One of my colleague came out with 18 words so I didnt manage to win the event prize. There were also best dress for male and female. Unfortunately, I didnt win any prizes also, only consolidation prizes.
The best of all is we didnt have any fireworks display in the office. hahaha... thats just too bad...

Finally, MERDEKA --- MERDEKA --- MERDEKA!!!!!

LOST CHILDREN?

Everyday when I go to shopping malls such as Jusco or 1U or Giant, there is always announcements about lost children. Seriously, I have no idea how these Malaysian parents can even afford to lose their kids for a few seconds/minutes.

These examples of parenting is just BAD and APPAULING... its like you never know if your children is kidnapped or lost on the way or something. Parents first priority is on the family especially when you have own children. Losing sight or not taking care of the children is just totally a disaster waiting to happen. Lost children will be crying and crying and running around totally shocked and frightened.

The older kids are the smarter ones. Eventhough they are scared and frightened, I am surprised that they managed to go to the Information Centre and claimed to be lost. This is where the announcements come in place. Sometimes the funny part is that the announcements repeat more than 5 times for a particular child and still no parent went to collect their child back. What happens? The husband and wife goes shopping and totally forgotten that they have children to take care of...

Well, to those readers that have children, here are a few pre-cautionary steps to take when going shopping:-
1) Always walk with the child.
2) Always hold the child's hand.
3) Always keep sight of the child.
4) Always be tentative on the child.

Be good parents and dont leave those children of yours go astray. Its a bad sign when it happens.

A DAY AT KLCC

It was a fine day when I finished work at 9am. Not really tired and was excited to go to KLCC to meet up with a friend of mine, Syafique. Went home and slept for a while, then left the house at 2pm for the KTM and Putra LRT. Managed to arrive KLCC at 4pm.

I was sitting at the concourse area waiting for either a SMS or a call of the meeting place. Managed to receive the call and we headed for quite a few places around KLCC. We walked outside at the waterfall busy chit-chatting. After feeling some sweat coming out, we headed straight back for the air-cond.

Had our nice lunch of chicken chop - nope its not at Chilis - but at the food court... We then walked up to the top floor and entered the Merdeka Gallery. It was our first time entering and thought we had to pay for it - we entered slowly in case the guards stopped us... when nothing happens, we walked and looked at the photo galleries of ancient KL including the old Subang Intl Airport.

After the gallery, we went to Times bookshop to browse on some magazines. When the day became dark, we decided to call it a day and went home.

WORST COFFEE HOUSE SERVICE

I went to SS15 Station One Coffee House (near Taylors College) tonight for dinner with a friend of mine. When we sat on a table, there was no service at all for more than 5 minutes. We just sat there like we didnt exist at all. The waiters and waitresses didnt even notice us. We were about to leave already but then I manually call one of the waiters and finally, we have a menu to look at. Some of the waiters and waitresses were free chatting and didnt even notice us. What kind of service is this?!? This is very very poor service despite so many customers there. We ordered some food, ate, then left. We will never step foot into this coffee house again or any other branches. Quality of service is unbearably poor and bad. This is the website of the coffee house: http://www.station1.com.my/ I have managed to filled up the feedback/complaint form in the website.

WESTERN FOOD

When I first came to KL, I have been visiting quite a few of the popular western restaurants here. Restaurants such as Secret Recipe, TGIF, Manhattan Fish Market, Chilis, and a few more. Some differs in environment and atmosphere, different preparation of the foods, personalization of service, and many more. Lately, I went to Chilis at 1-Utama.

I ordered the grilled lamb (as in photo) and it was delicious. The regular place I go to is about 10 minutes drive from my place and located at Kepong Jusco. I would usually go there with my laptop and orders either a cake or a drink. All the baristas know me quite well already. Usually, I will be going there for surfing, chatting, and downloading of mp3.

Just a bit of extra update on what I do on my OFF days... :):)

TAILGATING: FUN?

Many of the Malaysian drivers here tailgate almost everyday on highways, streets, and even on residential roads. Reasons? They think its fun! Rushing for anything? NO!! Then still, why do they drive like that?

Everyday, when I am on the roads, I always witness tailgaters along LDP and many major highways. Tailgate simply means driving one own's car to a minimal distance to the car in front at a speed of 100+ km/h. This will definitely scare the shit out of the driver in front. What to do? Either you are slow and hogging up the fast lane, then you will need to move to the middle lane safely and slowly - dont panic and make sure you look at the side mirrors first and signal. I noticed many dont even bother to look and signal and just change lane. This mostly is due to the frustration and panic of the driver caused by the tailgater behind.
Sometimes, eventhough the car in front is fast, the tailgater will always try to speed up faster and will usually flash or horn. What I noticed is some dont bother and drive on at his/her speed, some do stupid stunts such as braking abruptly, or braking slowly to slow down the tailgater.

Everyday I read in newspapers about road accidents. There is so much about road accidents that I dont usually care about it anymore. Why? Most of the accidents are caused by stupid and crazy stunt driving, negligent drivers, and of coz tailgaters. When I witness such accidents occur, I dont know why the public would even want to assist/help them when the accidents is caused by themselves. I would treat them like a "lesson learnt but too late to avoid." I usually dont care when tailgate accidents happen - its too late to stop them and they dont think. All they think of is that tailgating is fun.

Tailgating is a very stupid and deadly driving to do on the roads. If you are one of those tailgaters, make sure you think twice of driving in such manner and stop tailgating.

Drive safe, think of other drivers too on the roads.

STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Hello and welcome to my blog with a Smile!

Currently this blog is "under construction" and will be more appealing soon with lots of updates, news, and of coz topics of interests to everyone here.

Come back soon ya.
